Family & friends (vacation week 1)

Family & friends are an important part of vacation for me. I love taking time to sit and visit without the craziness of every day life getting in the way. That pretty much sums up my first week of vacation (in addition to the running & eating I did !).

We spent the first weekend with my brother and his family who were visiting us in Paris.

On Monday we drove to Agen, to spend 2 days with my husband’s cousin. They have a family home where my husband used to spend his summers, so we stayed overnight and enjoyed their company and reliving my husband’s childhood memories.

We even went through a couple old trunks full of clothes from the early part of the 1900s.

We then went to Basque country in the South Eastern part of France. We had friend’s vacationing in the region so we spent time with them, in the pool and on the beach (my husband is photo bombing this picture!)

And of course, the four of us spent time together….

Visiting the house and gardens of Edmund Rostand (called Villa Arnaga in the Pyranees), the author who wrote Cyrano de Bergerac :

Took the train from Hendaye to St Sebastian, Spain for the day :

And spent time in St Jean de Luz, France (this is the second year in a row we have come and LOVE it) :

It was a crazy, full but fun week.

The second week has started off just as busy with a day of family & friends Monday… but more of that later ! I am looking forward to a couple hours of down time this morning, before seeing more family tonight.

What do you prefer to do on vacation ? Sightsee ? Beach time ?

Sounds like a great first week of vacation!! So neat to go through old trunks full of clothes from the early part of the 1900s! I love to do it all on vacation, so sight seeing, beach time, and even a hike are on my list of things to do. 🙂

Hiking is one thing we don’t do. No one is motivated, except me….

Your beautiful pics make me feel like I’m there (almost!) How fun to go through a trunk of vintage clothing. I like to sightsee and be pretty active on vacation but it’s also wonderful to build in some downtime at the beach or pool. Enjoy the remainder of your vacation!

Thank you ! I too like some down time, especially the first week to recuperate. After that, I have a hard time sitting still !

Hmmmm good question! We seem to always seek out beach type destinations for our vacations so I’d say beach except….when we are in a new city with lots of history (since we don’t have much here in CA) then I’d have to go with sightseeing. How about a mix of both!?? I love that you got so many great family pictures. My favorite is your husband’s photo bombing because that’s something mine would totally do. Thanks for sharing your fun week with us! Have a wonderful weekend!!
