Fall foods

It actually doesn’t seem like fall here in Paris, our weather is still in the 60s. The only two things that make it seem like fall are shorter days and fall foods !

I LOVE fall food …  the squash, apples, pears, and grapes you find in the market this time of year. There are too few days for all my favorite recipes.

This past week’s cooking included :

Apple and pear crisp : I bought several kinds of apples and pears.

Squash galore ! Spaghetti, butternut, potimaron (small pumpkin)… I roasted the butternut and had it with salmon. I have not yet used the rest.

I also found a great recipe for roasted cauliflower and chick peas. I just coated them in olive oil, added curry and put them in the oven about 40 minutes. Be careful that the oven is not too hot, or the chickpeas will dry out.

I have 2 meals planned for this week :

  • Roasted potimaron + feta
  • Spaghetti squash bolognese

I saw that Angela @ Happyfitmama also had some fall recipes that I am thinking of trying !

Exercise this past week :

  • Wednesday : an hour at the gym (stationary bike, weights, abs)
  • Friday : 45 minutes water aerobics
  • Saturday : 45 minute treadmill workout + weights / ab work at the gym
  • Sunday : 7,5 km run out side

My left foot is starting to bother me slightly (again). This has just happened over the past couple weeks. I see 2 hypotheses : exercising (with impact) 3 days in a row is too much, OR, it is aqua gym. We do a lot of jumping… the pool was closed for 3 months and I had no foot pain. Pool is now open and I have foot pain. So I will see….

Looking forward to a busy week. I will be leaving Friday evening for a 10 day business trip, so I have a lot to anticipate between now and Friday evening.

I love the simplicity of the cauliflower and chickpea recipe. Yum!

Very easy, but I think covering with foil for the first half of cooking would avoid the chick peas from drying out.

I love all the produce at the farmer’s market too! I got a whole bunch of unique squash that I’m trying out. I made apple crisp last week with all the apples we picked in upstate NY!
