In France we have a four day weekend because Bastille Day is tomorrow, July 14th. So my husband and I went away to our country home. Although the weekend is not yet finished, the first 2 days were quite low key.

Some relaxing & reading :

Some strolling :

And some running (of course !).

There is a vacation village about 20 minutes from our home.

There is a 9 hole golf course and my husband wanted to hit some balls, so I decided to go with him.

I figured there were trails where I could run either at the golf course itself, or because it is a vacation spot, there had to be other trails in & around the “village”. Well, I was not disappointed. We got there about 10:30 and my husband said let’s meet back in 2 hours… OK ! Perfect time for a nice long, slow run. There were miles and miles of trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding. There was a 4 mile trail that cut directly through the woods into the town that was paved…

…. But also lots of trails through the woods, all in great condition. I only came across one muddy puddle I had to jump over.

The rest was in excellent condition, flat, it was shady, and very few people out. The weather was so fantastic that I wanted to take advantage of it and run without music. I always run with music, but being in a forest on a lovely summer day … the conditions were just begging to be absorbed and appreciated. So no music what so ever, and I loved it. I had absolutely no knee pain, very little fatigue, no drop in energy… almost perfect run. Except for one minor glitch…

I wasn’t paying attention at one point, looking into the forest and stepped on a rock. My ankle twisted and I was really scared. Holy crap ! I thought… a twisted ankle ? I felt it rotate. After 10 seconds of panic (OMG am I injured ?!) it felt fine, and there was no swelling nor pain, so I just kept running. Phew. Note  to self : always keep your eyes on the road in front of you !

I ended up running / walking for 2 hours.

I spent the rest of the day gardening, napping and reading my new Running Attitude Magazine from cover to cover.

How was your weekend ? Did you get a long run in ?

Couldn’t have spent a better 2 days !

Sounds like a fun time. Glad your ankle was okay…that is scary those moments when you’re assessing if anything serious is wrong. I just fell down my steps this morning, not even sure how, my foot just slipped on the carpet. Just have some rugburn and a bruise on my forearm, though. Have a good week!

And here I thought you were going to golf with your husband! I’ve done that before, got in a run while my husband or boys were doing something else. Great job!

It was definitely a great way to explore a new area.

  3. Bastille day sounds like so much fun! My best friend is in Paris right now she rented a villa in the Latin quarter. Do you live near there? Maybe she would run with you?

My first time at your blog, don’t know how I’ve never read before! Adding you to my bloglovin’ list!
I was registered for the Paris marathon last year and had to give it a miss because I couldn’t travel 🙁

I’m so glad your ankle is OK. It looks like a lovely place for a run. I’ve never heard of the magazine Running Attitude!

Running Attitude is my favorite French magazine… a bit more technical than Runner’s World.

    Sounds like a nice weekend.

So are the running magazines in France similar to the ones in the US in topics covered? (is it just a French edition of RW?)
