Back in the saddle

Vacation finished last Monday, and even if school for the girls doesn’t start until Sept. 1st, things are slowly getting back to a sense of normal. Work was a bit slow, so it allowed me to do a lot of cooking and focus on getting back into some kind of fitness routine.

Here is how the week went down :

Fitness

  • Monday : 6,5 km with some speed work. I can already tell that the days are getting shorter.

  • Tuesday : 6 km 
  • Wednesday : One hour full body workout @ home
  • Thursday : Off
  • Friday : 20 minute lower body workout and planking, and then the cat wanted to join in

  • Saturday : Off
  • Sunday : 25km run /walk. It was perfect weather and I was happy to be back in my usual stomping ground. My run was supposed to be longer but my NYC marathon training plan is a bit off because of my vacation. I didn’t want to over do.

Indeed, my achilles was a little finicky all week, with the speed work + squats. It doesn’t hurt but just doesn’t feel 100% great. I went out to run and saw this guy who was dressed like it was winter (and its 60 degrees WTH ?). When I looked at him he was wearing compression sleeves and I was like holy crap, why didnt I think of that ? A little compression would probably help my achilles stay tight while running. So I turned around and went home to slip on my compression socks. Win.

I went really slow on my run and iced my lower leg several times Sunday. I was pretty happy with the idea I found, using the ice bag that we use to keep wine cool. I just slid it over my foot and it molded great to my lower leg. Feels pretty good, but we will see Monday !

Life

I spent some time getting the house back in order, doing windows, washing curtains and decluttering. I am traveling this week for work, so I like to leave things in tip top shape for my husband when I go.

    Great idea on the ice packs! I like to get the house in shape before a trip, but it’s so I have an organized house to return to!

      No matter how great a shape my house is in when I leave, it rarely is when I get back.
      It will be picked up but I am not sure my husband and kids know how to turn on the vacuum cleaner.

    The wine cooler is perfect! I just don’t get people that overdress. I’d die. I feel like Ireland definitely threw a kink in my training plan, even though I ran plenty there. Maybe its more mental.

    My house is a wreck . . . trying to find the time & energy to do housework (due to Bandit) has been hard. And it’s amazing all the crap dogs drag in.

    Here’s hoping the achilles continues to improve. I taped my leg for the first time since my last half for the same reason — not really bothering me, but not quite right after that major bump in activity after being sick.

    Better safe than sorry.

      Yes, better safe than sorry.
      I am a bit obsessive about a clean house… I actually like doing my Windows and vacuum at least 3 to 4 times a week.

    Great idea in using the wine cooler on your leg! I hope your Achilles continues to improve. Your cooking looks very healthy and delicious. That is one thing I’ve really gotten away from and need to get back into the swing of. I do have chicken in the crock pot today. (Win!) And well, we don’t want to talk about how my house needs a thorough cleaning. Thanks for linking, Karen!

    What a great idea icing your leg w a wine bag. Serves two purposes now. I never have run w compression socks only for recovery. But I am glad that seemed to help you.

    That icing is a great idea! the bag fits so nicely on your leg 🙂 25 km was a great way to jump back into training. That cat is so funny! SO much personality.
    I always love to see your pretty running paths and area.
    I pass a lady sometimes in the morning and she always looks like she is dressed so hot to me LOL I always think the same thing.

    I often forget about compression socks and sleeves in the warmer months and I really shouldn’t, they help way more than they are hot!

    Ingenious idea about the wine cooler wrap! But I’m sorry that the Achilles is bothering you. Getting back to training after vacation is tough! Reality! But it’s nice that you’re gradually easing back into it.
