Another weekend gone by

Hope you had a great weekend! Mine was very good, despite pretty crappy weather. It rained hard on & off for most of the weekend. It was filled with lots of food, family and a bit of fitness thrown in.

Food : I was motivated to try new foods / recipes.

My husband and I went to the market Saturday morning. This is my favorite time of the year for the  market because all the fresh fruit is making its way to the stands. Strawberries especially ! We also bought our first melon and green asparagus, I saw the first cherries and peaches (though I will wait a week or two before buying).

We went to the fishmonger for some crab and shrimp and also bought some pork skewers from a new merchant.

I did lots of cooking : a big pan of roasted veggies, pancakes, muffins and prepped my veggies for the the week. The banana nut muffins are from PaleOMG. They are soooo good. I omitted the maple syrup and chocolate. Even my daughter loved them !

Some of my meals : pork skewer with roasted veggies, fish with sweet potato, as an appetizer ham in gelatin.

Family : getting connected

We went out on Saturday night as a family to a movie and dinner. There is a new French movie out, if literally translated …”What did we do to God ?”. It is about a traditional, Catholic family with four daughters. One of them marries a Jew, the second an Arab, the third a Chinese and the forth, a black Catholic. It is all about stereotypes and racism, and it is done with taste and finesse. It was hilarious but the underlying message about acceptance was very powerful. After the movie we went to dinner and it was a great conversation to have with our teenagers.

It was also a nice moment to sit and have a glass of champagne !

On Sunday we skyped with my brother, sister in law and their kids, who live on the West Coast of the US. It is so great seeing them and we don’t Skype enough. Miss you guys !!

As for fitness, it was a bit more low key.

  • Friday night : 45 minute aqua gym class
  • Saturday : off
  • Sunday : 60 minutes on the treadmill (didn’t want to risk the rain) + 30 minutes weights

A great weekend overall !How was yours ? Try any new foods or recipes?

Have a great week !

I love trying new foods! I’m constantly trying new recipes.

It sounds like a great weekend! I love farmer’s markets but there is not much produce here yet.

Wow it does look like you got a lot of cooking in. I love going to the Farmers Market in the springtime, too, although I miss the variety available in the California farmers markets… or perhaps I just need to wait until later in the year when I go to the Colorado farmers markets…

Even if there is no farmer’s market, do you have good, seasonal produce in your supermarket ? Mine is actually pretty good and has a lot of choice.
