After Maine… New Jersey

After spending 4 days in Maine with my parents, I flew to NJ on Sunday for work. The week was a lot less eventful and very cold !  The highlights of the week :

Fitness : I worked out every.single.day. The hotel had a small but decent gym.

  • Monday : 30 minutes of sprints on the bike followed by 30 minutes low impact cardio
  • Tuesday : 30 minutes of sprints on the elliptical followed by 30 minutes low impact cardio
  • Wednesday : killer full body workout with weights and some HIIT. Squat jumps, burpees, pushups… It took me over an hour to do the entire workout but I pushed through.20161214_074018-01
  • Thursday : Ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill20161214_072614-01
  • Friday : 45 minute lower body workout & two mile walk through the airport.20161216_155026-01
  • Saturday : arrived in France after flying back. Jetlagged, no workout.
  • Sunday : As I write this I am planning on running or swimming.

Otherwise, here is some randomness :

  • BFF. My college roommate lives in central NJ so we try to get together every time I am there. We went out to dinner Monday to catch up on life.
  • B-WICO. Baby was it cold outside ! Mid teens / low twenties. While I grew up in Maine, we do not get that kind of cold weather in France. Ever. And I am glad.
  • Frozen dessert. Despite the cold, some of this may have happened. I stay in a hotel with a kitchen so I can prepare some of my own food. This didn’t last the 5 days I was there. Just saying.20161214_185638-01
  • Christmas shopping. I did a little bit but wasn’t very successful. I wanted a pair of these, but went to several stores and called around. No luck. I am usually done my shopping by mid November, so the fact that I still have a couple things to buy is extremely stressful for me. 20161214_145821-01
  • Proud parents. I have been posting about the school my daughter wants to go to in the US, Ringling College of Art & Design in Florida, for computer animation. She spent all of October on her application for early decision. Verdict ? She got in ! It is the second best school in the US for what she wants to study, so needless to say, we are all pretty happy and very excited (but scared). Now we just need to figure out how to afford it. No small task. Some of her recent work :fb_img_1482050892375

And that’s a wrap !

I am linking up with Holly and Tricia at Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

Is it cold where you live ?

Finished your shopping yet ?

A big congrats to your daughter! That’s really awesome. And now you have an excuse to go to FL. 🙂

You have a lot going on in your life, so I’m not surprised that you’re not done with your shopping. Don’t sweat the small stuff, remember.

Unfortunately cold like this is not at all unusual here. We were so spoiled last year, but that’s the exception. It was even colder when we lived in VT. Someday we’ll escape from here again, but I will miss my friends.

I don’t like waiting until shopping at the last minute because I refuse to buy something just for the sake of buying, so I end up running around trying to find exactly what I want but there are no longer the sizes, colors, etc….. grrrrr.

      Stay warm !

    Is that school in Sarasota?

I went to an exhibit there last year when I ran the Music half.

I hope she does go. There are so many awesome races there.

Fingers crossed. So then I can see you more often.

      Yes, it is in Sarasota.
We could meet in FL or NY, but you are always welcome to come to France too !

Congrats to your daughter! What an honor! And what a gift. My best friend from HS is an artist and I am always in awe of her work.

Crazy question but I’m on steroids and that’s my excuse…anyways, does it feel weird to be speaking English all the time when you’re back in the US? Do you miss living here?

      Thanks for my daughter.
It always feels a bit weird being back in the States, but I can not say that I miss it. There are definitely things I miss which is why I consider myself so lucky to be able to travel there.
I speak English a lot at work here, so it doesn’t feel weird in the US. Sometimes, I don’t even know what I am speaking…
Great idea for a post !

Congrats! She’s very talented!! What an exciting chapter for her. Fun that you have someone in NJ to connect with while you travel. I didn’t see that cashew milk ice cream…

Congrats! I know your daughter is thrilled and beyond excited to be accepted at this US school. I didn’t know they still made those style of Adidas. I sported a pair with red stripes as a teen. Great job on the hotel workouts! Perhaps the ice cream was good for motivation? Thanks for linking, Karen!

Huge congrats to your daughter! So happy for her – and you too! That doesn’t look like the same hotel gym I was at in NJ last week … but I will compare your photo to the one I’ll be at tomorrow. 😉 I did the last of my Christmas shopping this weekend …. I think!

Congratulations to your daughter! Her artwork is great – she’s going to do so well. It’s super cold here. It was in the single digits, so today’s 25 degree run felt warm. I’d love a random heat wave! 😉

I could do 25 if there was sun. It is the overcast, grey skies with wind that kill me. Luckily I am not training for something and don’t have to run outside.

My shopping is almost done (yay!!). Congrats to your daughter! I wish I would have pursued something with my art background, but it didn’t work out that way. Thankfully, art is something one can enjoy their entire lifetime, whether it’s a career choice or not ;-)n (oh, and BTW, yes it’s cold where I am LOL)

Congrats to your daughter! That is HUGE! I wonder if that school is in FL because maybe lots of the students go on to animate for Disney?? My oldest is a high school sophomore and is already eyeing colleges. Yes, $$$$$
Yeah it’s cold -9 this morning before we add the wind chill. Looks like it’ll be a year where the snow doesn’t melt until April.

    • Karen - Fit in France December 20, 2016 at 7:30 am Reply

Yes, the school is in Sarasota. The money thing is crazy though…. it is 5 times as expensive as school in France. Ugh.

Great job on your workouts, I do that too when I’m on my own with the sets and marking them off! You very much deserved the ice cream!
Oh wow how very impressive your daughter got into the school she wanted. It will all work out for yall on how to make this happen! Scholarships??

It’s not consistently cold in Virginia yet….we had an ice storm on Saturday and then 60 and humid on Sunday–wishing it was winter already!
