A great run

I was feeling really good when I woke up this morning. Rested, energized, and looking forward to a long run. June was busy and it had been a while since I had done one. The weather was perfect, I was in no hurry to rush home for something, and I was excited because I had all kinds of goodies I wanted to try.

I recently bought this hand held water bottle. The “bottle” is soft and creates a vacuum so that the water doesn’t slosh around when you run. I wasn’t sure about it and it felt kind of funny when I attached it to my wrist, but I knew it was hot so the perfect occasion to try it out.

I have been experimenting with Jeff Galloway’s run / walk / run method, which I applied today. I started off with a 2 minute run / 1 minute walk, after about 20 minutes went up to 3 minute run / 1 minute walk, and eventually shifted to 4 minute run / 1 minute walk. I was a bit worried about my shins, as I had done a 4 km run on Saturday and they were a bit tight. I have noticed they tighten up if I am not properly warmed up. So I took things nice and slow from the start, and no shin pain !

I left about 8:15 a.m. because of the heat. I tried to vary my route and fully enjoyed it. I had to run by all these geese :

Ran over to the Vincennes castle :

Ran up to the bike track :

Saw people on horseback :

Congratulated myself for bringing my new water bottle because it was hot and dry :

And cursed the Saturday night partiers because there was a ton of trash. Seriously people, can’t you put the trash IN the trash bin and not NEXT to it ?20150628_092646

I ended up doing 1 hour and 54 minutes, 15 km.

When I got home, I continued my experiments. I had recently bought both Cliff bars and Nuun. I had never tried either. Thumbs up on both ! I can not believe how great Nuun is (orange flavor)!I was expecting it to be overly sweet but its not. I have had 3 today !

Yes, today was a ” 10 ” run.

I am traveling this coming week, but will be in Maine with my parents next weekend and looking forward to the LLBean 10K. Going to hook up with 2 bloggers at the race, Jen at Running with the Girls and Kara at One redhead and lighthouses. If you are in Maine next Saturday, come & join us !

I am linking up with Tara at Running n Reading for the weekend update. Be sure to check out the other bloggers.

Did you run this weekend ? How was your weather ? See anything interesting ?

LOVED Nuun. Can’t find it yet in France. I have to mail order it and its very expensive. I need to stock up when I am back in the US.

Damn you, now you’ve given me yet another water bottle to try, LOL! Last year I moved from a fuel belt to a handheld. I think about trying a vest, too. Yes, my name is Judy & I have a slight problem with trying new stuff.

Good luck on your race! Such a nice time to be in ME.

I am a creature of habit when I run, and not big on trying new things… But afterwards, I am always glad I did. What else would you recommend trying ? Any new gadgets worth investing in ?

It is so great when that happens. Makes you appreciate great runs that much more because they are not all like that.

That bottle looks interesting. I just bought an amphipod to carry with me in the run in my triathlons. I will keep this one in mind if I don’t like the amphipod. So excited for you going to Maine! I LOVE Maine but we won’t have a chance to get up there this year.

I was a bit wary, and thought it would be bulky but I found it really easy to use, to fill, etc. It was a successful first experience !

I hate having things on my hips… especially splashing water. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the handheld one was.

I like Cliff bars and have never tried Nuun (although I have some). I am a creature of habit. I also am intrigued by Galloway. I walk but nothing planned. If I ever ran a marathon, I definitely would use his method. I drool at those France pics. I haven’t been since 2000. Have fun in ME.

I really like the Salomon glove/soft bottles. Used them in some half marathons and in training.

I’ll be in Maine for Beach to Beacon, sorry to miss you – have a great race!

Sounds like a great run and neat water bottle (never seen it before). Glad you liked Nuun! My favorite flavors are: tropical, grape and watermelon.
