2014 Thankfulness & 2015 Goals

Where did 2014 go ?

Personally it was a good year. I travelled, vacationed, remodeled my kitchen, spent time with my family, met new people and was healthy, as were my friends and family.


Professionally it was tough.

But tough can be good because it taught me resilience, patience, focus and helped me accept that I can not be in control of everything (yes, I am usually a major type A, control freak).  I had the opportunity to change jobs in September and this gave me a whole new motivation to change other things in my life. Not that they were bad to begin with, but it gave me a little extra kick that I needed.

So going into 2015, my primary objective is to continue doing what I am currently doing, as I am in a really good place at the moment. I am linking up with the Friday Five groupCourtney, Mar, and Cynthia for this week’s theme, 2015 Goals.


Goal 1 : 2015 Fitness : continue exercising 4 days a week.

I habitually exercise Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but finding a slot during the week was always hit or miss. Between travel, PTA and general fatigue, I was never sure to get in a workout. Since September I make a point to get up early one day a week and go to the gym before work. This has allowed me to get in an extra day of fitness, and actually reduced the stress of me having to find time and anticipate building a workout into my crazy schedule.

Goal 2 : 2015 Food : Keep reducing my sugar intake and consumption of processed foods

I did several Sugar Detoxes in 2014 (21 Day Sugar Detox by Diane Sanfilippo) and the effect was immediate. After 3 days of reducing sugar and bread (eliminating anything processed, alcohol, dessert), I IMMEDIATELY sleep better and all stomach bloat goes away. Old habits die hard though, so a doing it a couple times a year was helpful. I actually did it in December, before the holidays, and thus went into Christmas and New Year’s feeling great and not wanting to overdo.


Goal 3 : 2015 Family : Continue to spend more time with my girls.

Teenage years are hard, and they need to talk A LOT. So I have cut down on my evening activities to be home more often. In theory, my eldest could only be at home for another 2,5 years. That’s scary ! So I want to be sure and take advantage of this time when they are growing up to be beautiful, independent, confident women.

Goal 4, 5 and 6 : 2015 projects : There are a few (major) things I want to accomplish this year :


4. Give my blog a face lift. My blog anniversary was yesterday ! I would like it to be more lively, fun, colorful, with more photos. I am not that technically savvy, so I will be looking for some help.

5. House project : there are many on my list.

  • Redo / paint our bathroom,
  • Redo the kid’s bathroom,
  • Tile our balcony,
  • Replace the girl’s beds / desks.
  • Replace light fixtures at our summer home

6. Run 4 races. (Which will be double what I ran this year)


And that’s about it ! Technically it is a Friday Six, and not Friday Five, but the theme was too important !

    All of your travels look amazing and I love all of your New Year goals. I’ve found that exercising 4 times a week is usually just right for me; enough to see/feel the benefits, but not too much that it’s stressful! I also want to lessen my sugar intake and give my blog a facelift! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

    These are great goals, and I love how you set them for different areas of your life! I am kind of also feeling like my blog needs a face lift, but I have no idea where to start! I worry that I will mess things up if I start playing around with it on my own too much:)

      I can relate ! I often wait for my mother to come and visit who loves house projects, and provides that extra motivation to do it.

    Love that you listed a balance of fitness, family, and house goals. I’ve heard about the 21-day sugar thing and am interested. I’d like to do another cut-the-sugar detox but not something as strict as Whole30 since I’m leaving on a business trip soon. I’m more looking for a 2-week thing to get on track and be like you say you were before the holidays (and this has worked for me before to re-set) before I leave on my trip, but perhaps I can incorporate the principles for 2 weeks coming up here!

      Even a 2 week detox has major benefits for me. I am travelling soon and it is a bit difficult when travelling, but I think planning ahead definitely helps.I usually have a big breakfast, snack then dinner. I skip lunch… it works for me as long as I had a good breakfast with protein.
